Concerts at Slowdown
In every town, there’s at least one venue that simply defines the regional music scene. For Omaha, Nebraska, that place is Slowdown in the North Downtown area. In every town, there’s at least one venue that simply defines the regional music scene. For Omaha, Nebraska, that place is Slowdown in the North Downtown area. Slowdown opened in 2007 and is owned and operated by partners Jason Kulbel and Robb Nansel. The two developed the idea in 2000 in order to fill the live music void they saw in Omaha at the time. The duo couldn’t find an ideal location until the City offered up a piece of that NoDo land. To ensure that the mostly unoccupied area wouldn’t eventually be filled with residential and corporate buildings, Nansel and Kulbel spurred the movement to rebuild it, leading to the development of which Slowdown is now a part.
Named after Omaha native band Slowdown Virginia, the space has a limited capacity to allow for a sense of intimacy during shows. The sound quality never disappoints, and earplugs are also available for those who need them. As an added incentive, the bar offers well-priced beer by the can, Pub Quiz every Monday night, and a stock of board games in case Slowdown concert tickets holders arrive early for the show. Past concerts on the Slowdown stage have featured such acts as Bright Eyes, Tokyo Police Club, Vetiver, and M. Ward, and the club continues to host a bevy of equally prolific artists along with many local ones.
Thanks to the owners and the City of Omaha applying so much effort to developing the NoDo neighborhood, concertgoers have a myriad of options for things to do before and after events. Upstream Brewing Company simply cannot be missed (order the smoked gouda and blonde ale soup and thank me later), and Delice is especially popular for their coffee and homemade desserts. Any of Omaha’s offerings will go great with your concert tickets for Slowdown, available anytime at ConcertTickets.com.
