The Fargodome is a spectacular concert venue. The Arena was proposed in 1987, with a plan emulating Washington’s Tacoma Dome. Per Tacoma Dome’s specifications, the original blueprint called for an inflatable ceiling, but the final project in 1992 ended up with a solid roof. Because of this modification, the Fargodome is not actually technically a dome. The massive events here usually fill up its 25,000-seat capacity, and a typical year will sell over 2 million ounces of beer and 3,000 pounds of nachos to its ravenous concertgoers.
The dome is a permanent home to the Division 1 NDSU Bison football team. Because of its deafening sound (recorded at 111 decibels) and fearsome reputation, opposing football teams have often referred to the indoor arena as the Thunderdome. Other sporting events here include WWE and High School wrestling matches.
Some of the Fargodome’s most exciting occasions are its high profile concerts. The great acoustics and large audiences attract stadium-rocking acts like Nickelback and the Blue Man Group, who play for exciting mixes of college students and Fargo locals. The domes is also used for other community defining events, such as trade shows and festivals, as well as a headquarters during emergencies like the 2009 flood.
