EDM music is characterized by the use of electronic instruments in its production. Artists often use synthesizers, sequencers and drum machines to create dance electronic music, in addition to more traditional instruments and vocals. Differentiation between the sub-genres is determined by how many beats there are per minute. Sub-genres, such as Electronica and House, tend to be more fast paced, while sub-genres, such as dubstep, are generally slower in tempo.
