I went to the 2002 Warped Tour to see a few of my favorite bands, and I have to say that it was well worth the trip! First off there are a few things I should tell you first timers that I learned, and hopefully you'll appreciate this advice. First, they ban digital cameras. So, instead of heading up to the line, standing in line with your digital and finally after 20 mins getting to the entrance, then being told to go put the camera back in your car and re-stand in line - just don't bother. Or, if your a lucky girl, stuff in in our shirt. Last year you could buy disposables inside, which I ended up doing, for 10 bucks each!!! Nice scam eh?
Next, bring and sun block. There's nothing lame about wearing sun block. WEAR IT! I left looking like a lobster.
Third, bring cash - beer isn't cheap and the only good thing they sold for food - pizza - isn't free either. Unless you're a really hot girl I suppose...
And forth - all the bands are on a schedule that they post, and you have to pick and choose which you wanna make the time to see. We had to trade off seeing some bands and missing others - but all in all it worked out ok.
As for the bands:
Bad Religion rocked. First time seeing them live, they really kicked ass, played last and was worth the wait. I almost got killed in the crowd - JESUS.
Homegrown sucked ass. I suppose that they know that, and that's why they all kept trading instruments and stopping in the middle of songs to talk. It was the worst show I've ever seen. That can happen when the singer takes over the drums. Dipsh*t's. You know Homegrown, you may be sick of your one-hit, but some of your "fans" might not, got it surfer guys? Er, maybe the fans are too. Oh well.
Mighty Mighty Bosstones were great - they put on one crazy show. There was one of them running back and forth on the stage the ENTIRE set. It was hilarious, he was so smashed!!
NOFX was pretty good but I wasn't impressed. I also had a hard time getting close enough to see anything. They played a new song for our new president called 'The Idiot Son of An A**hole. Nice huh.
MXPX was ok, they were kinda disappointing. They played all sorts of songs I liked on their albums, but no one was getting into it, I'm not sure I'd pay to see their show.
Anti-Flag played their sets, and in between, tried to convert us all into Communists. They sucked hard. And, Anti-flag... unless you guys haul all of your equipment on your backs to all of your shows, shut up about oil politics.
Good show, I recommend it and I'm going this year for sure!!
