1967-68
The Dallas Chaparrals are one of 11 original ABA teams.
1973-74
A group of San Antonio businessmen saves a franchise in turmoil, moving it to their town's HemisFair Arena and renaming it the San Antonio Spurs. They acquire George Gervin in mid-season.
1976-77
The San Antonio Spurs survive the ABA-NBA merger, leading their new league in scoring but finishing last in defense.
1977-78
Gervin nips David Thompson for the scoring title with a 63-point finale.
1979-80
Gervin wins his third straight scoring crown.
1982-83
The high-scoring Spurs win their division for the fifth time in six years, but the Lakers stop them in the Western Conference finals for the second straight season.
1983-84
Artis Gilmore tops the NBA in field-goal accuracy.
1987
After winning the NBA Draft lottery, the Spurs select David Robinson, then wait for "The Admiral" to fulfill his two-year Navy commitment.
1989-90
Robinson debuts and the Spurs make a 35-game jump in the standings.
1993-94
With 71 points in the final game, Robinson wins the NBA scoring title.
1994-95
MVP Robinson leads the San Antonio Spurs to a league-best 62-20 record, but they fall to Houston in the conference finals.
1997-98
With Rookie of the Year Tim Duncan, the San Antonio Spurs improve by 36 wins-breaking their own NBA record for biggest turnaround.
1998-99
After years of upset playoff losses, the San Antonio Spurs become the first former ABA team to win an NBA title. They beat the Knicks in five games.
2001-02
Duncan wins the first of two straight MVP Awards.
2002-03
The last year of the Robinson era results in another championship.
