1946
The Knicks win the first game in Basketball Association of America history, a 68-66 road victory over Toronto.
1950-51
New York reaches its first NBA Finals, losing to Rochester. Nathaniel "Sweetwater" Clifton is among the first AfricanAmerican players in the league.
1952-53
Dick McGuire and the Knicks fall to the Lakers in the Finals for the second straight year.
1960-61
New York wins a franchise-low 21 games.
1964-65
Willis Reed is drafted by the Knicks and wins Rookie of the Year honors.
1969-70
Under coach William "Red" Holzman, New York wins 18 straight games and 60 on the season. MVP Reed, after sitting out Game 6 of the Finals with a leg injury, scores the first two baskets in Game 7 as the New York Knicks beat the Lakers.
1972-73
With Reed, Jerry Lucas, Earl Monroe, Walt Frazier, Bill Bradley and Dave DeBusschere leading the way, the New York Knicks overpower the Lakers for its second NBA title.
1977-78
Holzman, who was replaced by Reed the year before, is brought back as coach as the New York Knicks begin to falter.
1984-85
Bernard King becomes the first Knick to lead the NBA in scoring, averaging 32.9 PPG.
1985
The New York Knicks win the first draft lottery and use the top pick on center Patrick Ewing.
1991-92
Pat Riley, winner of four rings with the Lakers, takes over as head coach.
1993-94
One year after winning 60 games, the New York Knicks return to the Finals, falling to Houston in seven games.
1998-99
The New York Knicks become the first No. 8 playoff seed to reach the Finals, but San Antonio claims the championship.
2003-04
New executive Isiah Thomas puts his stamp on the team, making changes that help the New York Knicks reach the playoffs for the first time since 2001.
