GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS IMPORTANT DATES & FACTS
1946-47
Scoring machine Joe Fulks leads the Philadelphia Warriors to the first BM championship. Fulks' scoring average of 23.2 tops the league by six-plus points.
1955-56
Rookie Tom Gola joins veterans Paul Arizin and Neil Johnston and helps the Warriors to their second title.
1959-60
Wilt Chamberlain revives a Warriors team that has slipped. 'The Stilt" posts scoring averages of 33-plus points in each of his first seven seasons, including 50.4 PPG and 25.7 RPG in 1961--62.
1960
On March 2, in a game against New York in Hershey, Pa., Chamberlain sets a record that might never be broken, scoring 100 points. He shoots 36-of-63 from the floor and 28-of-32 from the line.
1962
Two years after the Lakers' move to L.A., the Warriors head west to San Francisco and the Cow Palace.
1965
On January 15, Chamberlain is traded to the 76ers for three players and cash. The emergence of Rick Barry, a rookie in 1965--66, helps ease the pain felt by the fans.
1971
Plagued by low attendance, the Warriors take the name "Golden State" and move to Oakland before the 1971-72 season.
1974-75
In its third season since a court decision forced Barry to return to the Warriors after four years in the ABA, the Golden State Warriors win the third title in franchise history. Coach AI Attles does it with a deep bench and a team-first philosophy.
1990-91
The "Run TMC" trio of Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond and Chris Mullin helps the Golden State Warriors to its best record in nine years.
1996-97
The Golden State Warriors make San Jose its temporary home when the Oakland Coliseum undergoes renovations.
2001-02
Jason Richardson, drafted fifth overall, wins MVP honors in the All-Star Rookie Challenge and the first of two Slam Dunk titles.
