1968
The National League awards an expansion franchise to Montreal on May 27, with the club to begin play in 1969.
1969
The Expos win a wild first game, defeating the eventual champion New York Mets, 11-10, on April 8. Playing in 28,OOO-seat Parc Jarry, the club draws 1.2 million fans despite losing 110 games.
1973
In their fifth season, the Expos win 79 games under manager Gene Mauch and finish just three-and-a-half games out of the NL East race.
1977
The Expos move to Olympic Stadium and draw 1.43 million fans, doubling their 1976 attendance. New manager Dick Williams leads the team to 75 wins, a 2o-win improvement over 1976.
1979
The Expos lead the NL East much of the year but lose out on the final day as they finish second with a club-record 95 wins, their first winning season. Attendance soars to 2.1 million.
1980
The Expos are tied for the East lead with the Phillies entering the final weekend, but lose two of three to the Phils at the Big 0 to end up a game short.
1981
With baseball adopting a split-season format after a midyear players' strike, the Expos reach the playoffs for the first time. They top the Phillies in the Division Series but lose inthe NCLS to the Dodgers, 2-1, on Rick Monday's homer in the ninth inning of Game 5.
1987
Though many of the club's early 1980s stars have left via trades and free agency, Buck Rodgers leads the Expos to 91 victories and a third-place finish, only four games behind the division-winning Cardinals.
1991
Beset by still more player losses, the Expos finish last with their worst record in 15 years. In September a beam at Olympic Stadium collapses, forcing them to finish the year on the road.
1993
With the farm system producing new talent, Felipe Alou manages the Expos to a second place finish, only three games behind the division-winning Phillies.
1994
Alou's Expos are riding high with baseball's best record when a players' strike ends the season in August.
1999
The Expos lose 94 games amid talk that the franchise will move, but the club is purchased after the season by art dealer Jeffrey Loria, who promises to spend money and work for a new stadium in Montreal.
2001
Manager Felipe Alou is fired after nine years in charge and a 691-717 record.
2002
New manager Frank Robinson, hired by Major League Baseball, guides the Expos to a surprise second-place finish in the NL East Division.
