Tool is a heavy metal rock band from Los Angeles, California that formed in 1990. The group’s line-up has remained fairly consistent, with three original members remaining (drummer Danny Carey, guitarist Adam Jones, and vocalist Maynard James Keenan), and the bassist, Justin Chancellor, who has been in the band since 1995. Tool has produced several chart-topping albums, which were successful in a multitude of countries. The band has performed sold-out worldwide tours for fans who purchased their concert tickets for Tool long in advance.
Their first album, Undertow, released in 1993 is usually classified as a heavy metal rock album, but their second release brought on a more alternative feel to the group. The group is known for their musical experimentation, extravagant light shows, and one of the strongest and most loyal fan-bases in the music industry. Their releases tend to be long and complex, with exquisite disc artwork. As a result, the group is often classified under genres other than heavy metal rock and alternative, like progressive rock and art rock.
The relationship between the artists and the music industry is off and on. Tool dislikes censorship and values their privacy, two things which the music industry generally tends to disregard. Their most recent release, 2006’s 10,000 Days, sold over three million copies and was awarded platinum status by the RIAA. Although the album was the victim of a highly publicized internet leak, the album sold well and was generally positively reviewed by critics.
Tool has won a total of three Grammys and has been nominated for seven. Their wins include Best Metal Performance in 1998 and Best Metal Performance and Best Recording Package in 2002. The group is known for their over-the-top stage presence, so head to ConcertTickets.com to purchase your Tool concert tickets the next time the group tours!
