The talented singer, songwriter, and reality TV star rose to fame in the 90’s as an integral member of the soulful R&B group, “The Braxtons.” Tamar is also the youngest sister of the very well known Toni Braxton. Born in Severn, Maryland, Tamar began to sing as a toddler after her mother—an amateur opera singer herself—noticed Tamar’s ability while singing songs around the house. Thus, Mrs. Braxton began training Tamar and her sisters, and the girls eventually joined the church choir where their father was a pastor.

Tamar’s career began in earnest as she and her sisters worked as back up singers for their sister Toni, who was quickly rising to prominence. With dreams of selling out arenas of their Tamar Braxton concert tickets, the talented songstress realized that she had to go solo to make a name for herself and achieve her goals. Thus, she embarked on a solo career in 1998, initially exploring her gospel roots and working with famous rapper/producer Tricky Stewart. She recorded a solo album entitled Ridiculous, but it did not garner much public attention and was ultimately delayed and then cancelled. Intent on keeping the dream alive, however, Tamar did not give up hope and decided to retool the album and rename it Tamar, working with legendary producer Jermaine Dupri to take her to the next level.

The lead single “Get None” began to gain some airplay and eventually debuted at number 127 on the Billboard 200. Tamar kept at it and has since released several singles, with her second album slated to drop sometime in 2012. Tamar has also been actively working on the reality TV show,Braxton Family Values, a series that chronicles her family’s daily life.
