After playing with a moderately successful band, Steve Miller moved to San Francisco and formed the Steve Miller Band. In May 1968, they released their debut album, which did not have any commercial success. Their second album, Sailor, climbed to #24 on the Billboard 200 due in part to the success of the singles produced by the album. The audience of the Steve Miller Band expanded with the release of each subsequent album. Currently, the group has an eighteen studio album discography and has also released three live albums and at least 29 singles. The core hits of the group are “Joker” and “Fly Like an Eagle,” both of which have been featured in a variety of films, television shows and commercials.

The Steve Miller Band’s Greatest Hits 1974-1978 continues to be a big seller, even to this day. It has sold over 13 million copies worldwide. Unfortunately, three members of the band’s line-ups throughout the years have been lost to cancer (drummer John King died of kidney cancer in 2010, Norton Buffalo died of lung cancer in 2009, and James Cooke died in 2011.)
