Rihanna came to the U.S. in 2004. She signed her first music contract with Def Jam Records, at the age of sixteen, after being discovered by music Producer Evan Rogers. Since signing with Def Jam, she has won several prestigious music awards throughout her career, including six Grammys, five American Music Awards, eighteen Billboard Music Awards, and two BRIT Awards. She was also awarded the title of Digital Song Artist of the 2000’s decade by Billboard.

Rihanna was first introduced to the U.S. as a reggae singer but has made her mark in the music industry with various styles of dance, pop, Caribbean music, R&B, and dancehall. She released her first studio album, Music of the Sun, in 2005, which spawned her first U.S. hit “Pon de Replay,” and she released her second album, A Girl Like Me, less than a year later. However, it was her third album, Good Girl Gone Bad, that really kicked off her fame with the singles “Umbrella,” “Take a Bow,” and “Disturbia,” which became international hits. The album, released in 2007, was nominated for nine Grammy Awards and won Best Rap Collaboration for her single “Umbrella.” Her fourth album, Rated R, released in 2009, won her the number one spot on the Billboard’s Hot 100. Her fifth studio album, Loud, released in 2010, birthed the number-one hits “Only Girl,” and “What’s My Name?”
