Passion Pit, the indie-rock group from Cambridge, Massachusetts, formed in 2007. All of the members, with the exception of singer Michael Angelakos, attended Berklee School of Music. The group formed their name after reading the urban-slang dictionary presented by Variety. According to the publication, a passion pit was slang for a drive-in theatre, because drive-ins offered the privacy and romantic allure for teenagers to release their passion. There is also a pornographic film of the same title starring Traci Lords, but the group was unaware of the film at the time their name’s inception.

The first chunk of songs released by Passion Pit, Chunk of Change E.P, were initially a gift to vocalist  Michael Angelakos’ girlfriend at that time. After the release, the group was named “Best New Local Act in 2008” in the WFNX/Boston Phoenix best music poll. A few songs off the E.P received exposure in various media outlets, namely television shows.

In 2009, Passion Pit released their debut full-length album, Manners. Even before its release, Clashmusic.com described the album as having “every chance to rank as one of the year’s best.”  Songs from this album were used on the soundtracks for Skins, Gossip Girl, and the 2010 film “Life As We Know It,” starring Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel. Passion Pit’s largest tour to date was opening for Muse, during the eight shows that made up the U.S leg of their tour.
