Cole displayed raw musical talent from a very young age, winning her first talent competition when she was only five years old. At the age of 12, she met and recorded with rapper MC Hammer, and at 18, she moved to Los Angeles to purse her music career. Her debut single, “Never,” was used to promote the soundtrack for the film “Barbershop 2: Back in Business.” Her first album, The Way It Is, debuted to moderate success and featured collaborations with Kanye West and Eve.
Her second album, Just Like You, was released in 2007 and featured collaborations with a number of artists, including Lil Kim, Missy Elliot, and T.I. The album produced three singles that made it top of the R&B/Hip-hop charts: “Let It Go,” “I Remember,” and “Heaven Sent.” The album received positive reviews and earned Cole four Grammy nominations throughout 2008 and 2009.
