The band was one of the first to place importance on music videos. They were among the first bands to have their videos shot by professional videographers and directors on 35mm film movie cameras. Their music videos, overall fashion style, and looks of the members, were very polished and put-together. The group soon earned the nickname of the “prettiest boys in rock.” Along with being among the first to place emphasis on music videos, they were also among the first to include controversial content, like nudity and sexually suggestive images and words. The group was also among the first to use innovative video technologies during their live shows.
The group has an impressive fourteen album discography and is rumored to be writing the theme song for the upcoming James Bond film Skyfall. It will mark the second time Duran Duran recorded a Bond theme. Duran Duran has been nominated for a total of fourteen awards and has won nine. Among their wins are two Grammy’s for Best Music Video in 1984. They were inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1993.
