Creed is an American heavy metal rock band formed in 1995 in Tallahassee, Florida. While often being criticized and parodied for their grunge-rock sound, the group has won Grammys and released multi-platinum albums. The band tours the country regularly, playing to sold out crowds who have purchased concert tickets for Creed well in advance. They may be the brunt of jokes, but their massive success and popularity among mainstream music listeners is anything but a joke.
The band has released three consecutive multi-platinum albums, including their debut-release My Own Prison, and the two follow-up albums, Human Clay and Weathered. These three albums have produced a slew of best-selling hits and have established Creed with the credibility and popularity to make music not only a hobby, but a career. They have sold over 28 million records in the United States alone and over 40 million worldwide. They are the ninth best-selling group of the 2000s. In 2004, it was announced that Creed had disbanded and countless Creed fans across the country accepted the news with heavy hearts. The band even went so far as to “promise” fans they would never return.
Despite these claims, the group reformed in 2009, released Full Circle the same year, and have been together ever since. Although, to this day, the group still receives much criticism for their “ballad-type rock,” the group won a Grammy in 2001 for Best Rock Song and have broken the world record for most cameras used during a taping of a live performance.
