Cobra Starship is an American alternative synth-pop band formed in New York, New York in 2003. The band was created as a solo project by Midtown bassist and lead vocalist Gabe Saporta. The group released its debut album While the City Sleeps, We Rule the Streets in October of 2006. The single from the album, “Snakes on a Plane (Bring It),” was recorded for the film Snakes on a Plane. Thanks to the exposure the song got from the film, the single became a minor hit and a launching pad for the group’s future career. While on tour in 2007, the group began recording their next album on individual laptops. The album, Viva La Cobra!, was released in 2007, and the group toured extensively in support. The cover art for this album was used to promote the fourth-generation iPod Nano, in purple. Their third album, Hot Mess, was released in 2009 and debuted at number four on the charts, making it the group’s most successful album. Their most recent release, Night Shades, hit stores in August 2011, and the full album was made available to stream on the band’s Facebook page prior to its release. The album debuted at number 50 and sold 9,000 copies its first week.

The songs of Cobra Starship have been featured on a handful of television shows and films, including Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Jennifer’s Body, and season 4 of 90210.
