After the release of her 1999 self-titled album, Christina rose to international and commercial success, and the album spawned three number one singles, including “Genie in a Bottle,” “What a Girl Wants,” and “Come on Over Baby (All I Want Is You).” Although her next two albums, a Latin-pop album and a Christmas album, were commercial successes, Christina became displeased with her lack of creative input and image. She parted ways with her management and took complete control over her fourth studio album Stripped.
Stripped was a highly controversial album, especially in regards to Christina’s trashy image and sexually charged music videos, but the hit single “Beautiful” was a major commercial success and helped the album’s total sales. Her follow-up album received generally positive reviews, but her most recent release, 2010’s Bionic, was met with mixed reviews and low record sales.
Christina has been nominated for over 300 awards and has won 207, including four Grammys. Her lyrics include a variety of controversial topics, including issues with female empowerment and her rocky childhood. She has dedicated much of her time to philanthropy and actively works towards human rights and world issues. She made her acting debut in 2010's Burlesque and maintains a strong presence in many avenues of pop culture.
