Alanis Morissette, the Canadian pop singer, actress, and record producer, began her music career in the 1990s and has maintained a presence in the industry ever since. Her first two albums were released strictly in Canada, and although her debut-release went Platinum, she did not garner worldwide recognition until the release of Jagged Little Pill in 1995.
Although Jagged Little Pill has contributed to over half of her overall worldwide album sales and is still extremely popular, even to this day, the only label that would take a chance on the album, or on Morissette, was Maverick. Maverick only expected the album to produce mediocre results, both financially and among the critics, but the exact opposite came true. The album became an overnight sensation after the hit-single “You Oughta Know” received constant airtime and catapulted Morissette into the American music industry, where she had not yet been on the radar until that point.
“You Oughta Know,” combined with the popularity of other singles off the album, kept Jagged Little Pill on the charts for over a year. The album is the second best-selling album by a female artist, behind Shania Twain’s Come On Over. Morissette won four Grammy’s and six Juno Awards for the album. Since the release of Jagged Little Pill, Morissette has released four other albums, all of which, though still popular, have not reached the level of Jagged Little Pill.
In addition to her career as a musician and record producer, the artist has also ventured into the world of acting. She has been seen in several television cameo roles and playing “God” in Kevin Smith’s film, Dogma. When the time comes, head to ConcertTickets.com for your Alanis Morissette concert tickets!
