To this date, AC/DC is one of the most popular bands of all time. As of 2010, the band has sold over 200 million records worldwide. Their eighth studio album Back in Black, released in 1980, has gone Platinum 22 times. It has sold 50 million units worldwide, making it the highest selling album by any band, and the second-highest-selling album in history, behind Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
AC/DC ranked fourth on VH1’s “The 100 Greatest Artists of Hard rock.” The group was named the seventh greatest heavy metal band of all time by MTV and ranked #72 on Rolling Stone’s list of the “100 Greatest Artists of All Time.” In 2003, AC/DC was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the Recording Industry Association of America has certified their album Back in Black as being double Diamond.
In an interview in May 2011, Angus revealed the band is planning a future world tour and hopes to outdo the “Black Ice” world tour the band is known for.
